Jimmy Fund Launches New Web Site
July 11, 2006
WOBURN, MA July 11, 2006- Bridgeline Software announces that they have re-designed the new web site for the Jimmy Fund, the major fund raising arm of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Four years after introducing a Web site that has won more than a handful of prestigious awards, the re-designed Web site offers visitors a quicker, more efficient way to learn about the Jimmy Fund.
Since its founding in 1948, the Jimmy Fund has supported the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world. The popular fund was started in 1948 when the Variety Club of New England and the Boston Braves baseball team teamed up to help a 12-year-old cancer patient dubbed "Jimmy." Since 1948, hundreds of events, coupled with the generosity of thousands of people, have helped the Jimmy Fund save countless lives by furthering cancer research and care at Dana-Farber. The real appeal of this "grassroots" fund is that it has given ordinary people a way to join the fight against cancer.
Bridgeline Software had designed the initial Dana-Farber and Jimmy Fund sites and was given the challenge to upgrade their visual web site identity and information architecture to reflect the current organization's mission and goals. The new site creates a visual brand with a more "grown-up" look, demonstrating that the Jimmy Fund is not just for kids. In addition, the new site is aligned with the new Dana-Farber look and feel but gives the Jimmy Fund site a visual brand that would stand on its own.
The design's simple interface and sensitive treatment of the subject of cancer, strikes the right balance between reflecting the seriousness of the fund's mission and the precious lives of those it serves. Within the site, supporters can find up-to-date information on Jimmy Fund events, get tips on how to volunteer, attend or host an event for the Jimmy Fund or learn how to donate blood, platelets and bone marrow. The site also reflects the Jimmy Fund's special relationship with the Boston Red Sox. The site's interactive capabilities make it possible for people to use a credit card to donate in memory of a specific person or to register online to participate in certain events. To gain efficiencies from both investment dollars and site maintenance, Bridgeline Software used the same back-end tools as the main Dana-Farber site for accepting donations and signing up for events - yet the two sites remain distinctly different in tone and demeanor.
The new Jimmy Fund web site can be viewed at www.jimmyfund.org.
